Sherry Horton grew up as an Air Force brat but has called Fort Pierce home for forty years. As a child she had no artistic calling but loved the solitude of nature. As an adult Sherry started oil painting classes with Charlotte Dickenson – a wonderful impressionist oil painter – and established a foundation as an oil painter. Later as a studio artist at 111 Orange, she took Leslie Stoke’s intuitive oil classes and was fortunate to be invited to participate in her 2014 and 2015 Cold Wax & Oil 2-day workshops. The cold wax and oil process is intuitive, spontaneous and challenging. Sherry was hooked. Her landscapes are ethereal and abstracted. Color themes present themselves. For the few years she has been building a body of cold wax and oil work while exploring the medium. The ‘Sabal’ series and the ‘Celo’ series of palms, sugar maples, ponds and paths are inspired by her properties in Fort Pierce and North Carolina. One of her ‘Celo’ paintings was accepted in the 2015 Backus Museum’s Best of the Best Show and was awarded a Third Place ribbon. Sherry currently has a working studio in her home and a studio/gallery at Seriously Mixed Media Art on Second Street in downtown Fort Pierce. Sherry is grateful for the inspiration and mentoring of Charlotte Dickenson, Leslie Stokes and fellow Art Mundo founder – Ginny Piech Street.nson, Leslie Stokes and fellow Art Mundo founder – Ginny Piech Street.
